Cause usually when a guy says it to me something in their tone tells me that he's only trying to be nice. I think I've been told that before and it came off kind of harsh, but generally I think of it as a nice thing, respond to it, and smile t, however I may not know what to say after. But I ususally give people the benefit of the doubt and believe that they were just trying to get me to smile. Also, it shows that that person looked at me, tried to read how I was feeling, and considered it enough to try to get me to smile. But I do agree, it's much more effective to get me to start talking to you if you say something that requires more of a verbal response.
